UNT Housing Fair

Recently I was able to attend the “UNT Housing Fair” that was home to music, games, and much information about off-campus housing and various student services related to it. Hosted in the Library Mall from 11 AM to 1 PM it was the sight of many different booths set up to let students know about different off-campus housing options.

Multiple apartment communities had representatives there talking to the students about the benefits to living on campus as opposes to on campus.

One of the largest promoters there was American Campus Communities which is an official sponsor of Mean Green athletics as well as the parent company to three apartment communities around UNT; Uptown, City Parc, and U Centre. They had various booths handing out free t-shirts, sunglasses and even water bottles.

Many of the students waiting in line to receive their “swag” lived on campus and were interested in looking at alternate living methods instead of just the dorms. When asked a few did say they preferred to live on campus but was open to the concept of living off campus.

Others who lived off campus already jumped at the opportunity of receiving free stuff and shared their options on why they liked off campus housing better.

It wasn’t just all about free “swag” though various booths had games set up for students to receive prizes. There were other tables set up letting students know about various services that UNT provides to students that live off campus. On of those organizations is the Off-Campus Student Services, which provides community outreach to different organizations that students are apart of but may not be directly linked to the university.

All in all it was a fantastic event that brought a lot of information about off campus housing to students and gave them a stepping-stone to many students who might be interesting in off-campus housing in their upper-classman years.
