Zootopia Movie Review

Synopsis

Zootopia follow the tale of the first ever bunny cop and a fox con artist as they unravel a conspiracy about missing mammal predators. The film is directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, and stars Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Tommy Chong, Octavia Spencer, Jenny Slate, and Shakira as voice actors.

Animation

The animation of this movie was top notch as is with most Disney Animation films. This movie give Pixar a run for its money in the design department. Each animal plays their role perfectly and the size differences a clear; as well a large part of the movie itself.

Characters

The lead characters of Judy Hopps (Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Bateman) have great chemistry together and you can really buy their relationship. It’s relationship is more than just that typical buddy cop movie dynamic. Where Wilde actively tries to prolong Hopps investigation but they end up coming together in the end.

Story

The story provided some great moment to the kids but I feel like this movie is best seen through adult eyes. It touches on racism and drugs as main themes of the movie which makes it really relevant to today’s world. They use the different types of animal to provide their anti-racism message and it is very accessible.

Summary

All in all this movie really surprised me. I went in expecting a cutesy kids movie but walked out experiencing a very adult movie and a very well written one at that. I’m excited to see what Disney Animations comes up with next.
